Park Outreach Storytime - Pond, Lake and Stream

Opening
Stand Up Sit Down Song by Rick Goldin
Everybody stand up
Everybody sit down
now stand up again, and turn around
you can keep standing up, but not for long
cause this is the stand up, sit down,

stand up, sit down song

stand up if you're ___ years old
and sit back down again

stand up if you're ___ years old

and sit back down with your friends
(repeat until I get everyone)

Felt Board
For my felt board I found six clip art images of animals found in Ohio's waterways.  I used the Yellow Salamander, Red Crayfish, Bluegill Fish, Pink Salmon, Brown Otter and Green Turtle for two songs.

Using the song Five Little Fish by Dr. Jean from her album Dr. Jean Sings Silly Songs I change the lyrics slightly so that my 6 fresh water friends were swimming in a pond.  See the original lyrics at Five Little Fish - Velcro Glove.

Pick any of the six characters to start the song off.

One brown otter was swimming in the pond,
splishing and a splashing and carrying on,
along came a blue gill
ooh say hello
two friends are swimming in a row.

Two friends are swimming in a pond
splishing and a splashing and carrying on,
along came a crayfish
ooh say hello
two friends are swimming in a row.

*Continue until all 6 critters have been used then end the song by saying

Six friends are swimming in a
splishing and a splashing and carrying on,
along came a crayfish
ooh say hello
six friends got to go.

Using the ocean themed rhyme Bubble Bubble Pop, we sang the song using our six fresh water friends.

One little red fish
swimming in the water
swimming in the water
swimming in the water
bubble bubble bubble bubble Pop

Rhyme

The Elevator Song from Jbrary and it's 2nd verse verse about the Ocean. I changed the words to the second verse to make it about fresh water so just exchange Ocean for Lake and that's all you need.

Oh the city is great and the city is grand
There's a whole lot of people
on a little piece of land
And we live way up on the 57th floor
and this is what we do when we go out the door.
We take the elevator up and the elevator down,
take the elevator up, take the elevator down
Take the elevator up and the elevator down
and we turn around.

Oh the ocean is great and the ocean is grand.
There are lots of tall ships and very little land.
And we sleep down deep in a hammock near the floor
And this is what we do when we go out the door:
We ride the waves going up, we ride the waves going down
We ride the waves going up, we ride the waves going down
We ride the waves going up, we ride the waves going down
And we turn around.

Closing
From Family Storytime: Welcome to the Library by Jbrary.

The more we get together, together, together
The more we get together
The happier we'll be
For your friends are my friends
and my friends are your friends
The more we get together
The happier we'll be

The more we read together, together, together
the more we read together
the happier we'll be.
Read big books and small books
Read short books and tall books
The more we read together
the happier we'll be.
