September Favorites

Howdy
I'm slightly horrified by two things.  One - That tomorrow is the first day of October. Two - My Cosplay Halloween Party is in a month.  Enjoy these popular posts from September while I go quietly freak out.

Quick Pic - Halloween Measurement Chart

Howdy
For Halloween I made a measurement chart of monsters and other  characters.  It goes from a 6'' tall pumpkin to James from Monsters Inc at 8' tall. The column also includes a black cat, Mike from Monsters Inc, a mummy, ghost, vampire, wolfman and Frankenstein's Monster.

Little Mouse, Little Mouse

Felt Board
Little Mouse, Little Mouse Sunflower Storytime. You can use the PDF printable or use the idea to make your own felt board.  The link to the PDF still works but when I search the page for the printable I don't find it.

Hide the little mouse under one of the colored houses on the flannel board.
Then say, "Little mouse, little mouse. Are you in the . . . what color? …Red house?” Repeat until you find the little mouse.

Bean Bags
“Silly Hat Song” (Tune: This Old Man)
Credit: SurLaLune Storytime , same as the song below it is intended for use with something other than a beanbag but it works great regardless.

On my head, I wear my hat. It is such a silly hat
That my head will wiggle waggle to and fro
Where else can my silly hat go?
[Repeat using foot, elbow and knee.]

Puppet On Your Heart
From JBrary, you can watch the full video of the song. I changed the lyrics to beanbags and it went very well.

Put your puppet on your heart, On your heart.
Put your puppet on your heart,On your heart.
Put your puppet on your heart,What a lovely way to start!
Put your puppet on your heart,On your heart.
Put your puppet on your knee…
You’ll both be filled with glee…
Put your puppet on your toes…
Now move it to your nose…
Put your puppet on your head…
Put your puppet straight to bed…
Give your puppet a big hug…
Make it snug as a bug in a rug

Mouse Shapes

We clap our hands like this
We clap our hands like this
We clap our hands with all of our friends
We clap our hands like this.

We blow a kiss like this
We blow a kiss like this
We blow a kiss with all of our friends
We blow a kiss like this.

We wave goodbye like this.
We wave goodbye like this.
We wave goodbye with all our friends.
We wave goodbye like this.

Craft
I copied the Mouse Paint Shape Craft from Teachers Pay Teachers. I have a lot of scrap paper so I just cut a lot of the shapes ahead of time and then the kids could pick whatever colors they wanted to create their mouse.  Once the mouse was glued to the paper, we drew mouse houses and things that the mice would like to eat.

Parachute
The parachute makes my kids really wild,;there is a lot of shrieking and shaking, but not a lot of listening.  I don't play any music like I do with my older kids.  Today we did opposites like Up/Down, Fast/Slow, Loud/Soft.  Then we put all the scarves in the parachute, shook them out and repeated over and over.  At the end we sat on the floor, raised the chute over our heads and waved goodbye to everyone followed by us staying seated to sing the goodbye song listed above. I really liked doing the chute at the end of the program and I think if I don't over plan we can definitely do this again.

Egg Shaker Rhyme
Shake Your Shaker (to the tune of London Bridge) from LibraryLand.

Shake your shaker in the air,
Shake it here, shake it there.
Shake your shaker in the air,
Shake your shaker.

Shake it high and shake it low,
Shake it yes, shake it no.
Shake it high and shake it low,
Shake your shaker.

Shake it up and shake it down,
Rub your shaker on the ground.
Shake it up and shake it down,
Shake your shaker.

Shake it near and shake it far,
Drive your shaker like a car.
Shake it near and shake it far,
Shake your shaker.

Shake it fast and shake it slow,
Shake it stop, shake it go.
Shake it fast and shake it slow,
Shake your shaker.

Action Rhyme
I’m a Builder Tune of “Frere Jacques” (Modified from the original by Jean Warren) From Preschool Express.

I’m a builder!
Hear me pound!
Hear my sound!
Tap- a tap, a tap-tap
Tap-a tap, a tap-tap
All day long!
All day long!

Tune Cube
This Little Piggy

I learned that after you toss the cube to find the rhyme for the day you have to pick up the cube or one of your kids will grab it and smash it to the floor repeatedly before you can get it back.
