Felt
Three Little Birds
I don't know the original inspiration for this story. The felt was made by a previous staff member so I just inherited it. Its a bit like Goldilocks and the three bears. Basically the three birds Pinkie, Blue Bird and Robin want to be neighbors so they can play together everyday. They go looking at houses but of course there is a perfect house for each bird. The kids enjoyed watching the bird test each house and then they told me why that house wasn't quite right. We switched the bird around until everyone was happy.
Five little Owls - inspired What a Hoot (owls) by Sunflower Storytime
Five hoot owls sitting in a tree
One flew away! How many do you see?
One, two, three, four.
Four hoot owls sitting in a tree
One flew away! How many do you see?
One, two, three.
Three hoot owls… etc.
Rhyme
Way up in the sky, the little birds fly
While down in the nest
The little bird rest
With a wing on the left,
and a wing on the right
The little birds sleep all through the night
Shhh they’re sleeping
The bright sun comes up,
the dew falls away
Good morning good morning
the little birds say
Check the cute video by WCCLS Birth2Six.
Eggs
And five little eggs (fingers on second hand)
Are 10 little eggs you see (wiggle fingers)
Break their shells and what do you have? (clap)
Ten little chickens as yellow as can be. (wiggle fingers)
Egg Shakers
if you’re happy and you know it give a shake
if you’re happy and you know it give a shake
if you’re happy and you know it give a shake
if you’re happy you know it and you really want to show it
if you’re happy and you it give a shake
clap – tap
everyone can shake shake shake
everyone can shake shake shake
everyone can shake shake shake shake
and now let’s make a stop
tap – clap – wave

We blow a kiss like this
We blow a kiss like this
We blow a kiss with all of our friends
We blow a kiss like this.

Craft
We did this craft last year for Birds Storytime. The idea is from Hatching Chicks from Little Foundations.

I can't help but think about the nest outside the back door while reading through all of this. :)
