Five Little Fish - Velcro Glove

Howdy
I love to use the song Five Little Fish by Dr. Jean from her album Dr. Jean Sings Silly Songs.  It is a great song for a beach storytime. This year I decided to make a velcro glove with little fish so I could share the song with my preschool kids in a new way.  My definition of fancy felt is anything with googly eyes and I sure things these critters are cute.

No little fishies swimming in the sea,
(Hold up fist.)
Splishing and a splashing
(Pretend to swim.)
And a rocking to the beat.
Here comes a little fishie,
(Wave.)
Oh, say, "hello."
One little fishie swimming in a row.
(Hold up one finger.)
One little fishie . . . (Hold up one finger.)
Two little fishies . . . (Hold up two fingers.)
Three little fishies . . . (Hold up three fingers.)
Four little fishies . . . (Hold up four fingers.)
Five little fishies . . . (Hold up five fingers.)
Everybody wave 'cause don't you know,
Those little fishies got to go (Wave goodbye)
Oh, ah, away they go. (Lyrics)

Preschool Storytime - Bicycles

Image resultInspired by Jen in the Library's program Bikes - Preschool Storytime

I did make a folder story for this program but we started to run out of time and no one wants to cut parachute play short.  I think I'll use the story in the summer with a sports theme.

Five Furry Cats Velcro Glove

Howdy
Often I make felt boards for a specific theme.   I made these cats months ago but I have never used them. I do really like the velcro glove because it is less cumbersome than our velcro board and unless the kids climb me like a tree it is quite hard for them to get ahold of the felt pieces.  The rhyme Five Furry Cats is from The Eensy Weensy Cd of Little Fingerplays by Debbie Carroll.

Five furry cats sitting by a fire
Some meowed low
And some meowed higher
They all sang together in a kitty cat choir
Meow meow meow meow meow
Till they all fell asleep by the warm warm fire

Sing it to “Five Green and Speckled Frogs”
Five pigs so squeaky clean
Cleanest you’ve ever seen
Wanted to go outside and play
Oink! Oink!
One jumped into the mud
Landed with a big thud
Then there were four clean squeaky pigs.

Rhythm Sticks
We bought a set of traditional rhythm sticks so I've upgraded my kids from Popsicle sticks.

We started with one stick each.  We sand the alphabet song and tapped the floor for each letter.  Then everyone got two sticks and we sang the song again.  This went really well so I used the song.

Colorful Butterflies from Caterpillars and Butterflies Storytime by Miss Meg's Storytime

Colorful Butterflies

The first to come to the garden bed
is a lovely butterfly of brilliant RED

Then in comes another and that makes two
Fly right in, my friend of BLUE

This garden is fine, the best I’ve seen
says the butterfly of the softest GREEN

Our garden needs a sunny fellow
Fly in butterfly, with wings of YELLOW

Little friend of PURPLE, fly in too
the garden is waiting for a color like you

Hello ORANGE, we’ve waited so long
fly in, right where you belong

Butterflies, Butterflies, you’re such a sight
Flying together with such delight!

There was a tree
All in the wood
The pretties little tree that you ever did see
The tree was in a hole and the hole was in the ground

And the green grass grew all around all around

and on that tree...there was a branch
and on that branch...there was a nest
and in that nest...there was an egg
and in that egg...there was a bird
and on that bird...there was a wing

and on that wing...there was a feather
and on that feather...there was a bug
