“Silly Hat Song” (Tune: This Old Man) Credit: SurLaLune Storytime , same as the song below it is intended for use with something other than a beanbag but it works great regardless.

On my head, I wear my hat. It is such a silly hat
That my head will wiggle waggle to and fro
Where else can my silly hat go?

[Repeat using foot, elbow and knee.]

Puppet On Your Heart
From JBrary, you can watch the full video of the song. I changed the lyrics to beanbags and it went very well.

Put your puppet on your heart, On your heart.
Put your puppet on your heart,On your heart.
Put your puppet on your heart,What a lovely way to start!
Put your puppet on your heart,On your heart.
Put your puppet on your knee…
You’ll both be filled with glee…
Put your puppet on your toes…
Now move it to your nose…

Coffee Can Drums
Sing along song with the kids trying the rhythm on their knees or with drums. We use plastic one pound coffee cans as drums. First we did rain sounds, soft pitter pats finger tips, louder hard rain with the whole length of the fingers and then loud thunder booms with the palm of the hand. Next we sang the alphabet song and hit the drums once for each letter. Since that all went really well we sang this song about a Giraffe.

I know a giraffe
he plays the drums
he wakes me up
whenever bedtime comes
with a rat-a-tat, rat-a-tat, rat-a-tat, rat-a-tat

(repeat with the kids suggestions for types of animals or us all farm animals or all zoo animals depending on your theme)

Felt Board

Mitten Matching
Mitten Matching
I used to work with a wonderful named Marilyn who made amazing felt sets.  One idea that I loved was a mitten matching game to teach shapes and patterns among other things.  A coworker helped me make 16 pairs of felt mittens.  I gave each child a mitten and put the matching mittens in a bag. I drew out a mitten one at a time and had the child come forward to make a pair on the velcro board.

Song
Ravioli (Tune: Alouette) - From Storytime Hooligans Clothing Storytime which references the King County Library System

Ravioli, ravioli,
Ravioli, that’s the stuff for me.
Do you have it on your sleeve?
Yes, I have it on my sleeve.
On your sleeve?
On my sleeve.
Ra-vi-o-li…
(repeat with other body parts or articles of clothing, e.g. Do you have it on your chin? Do you have it in your shoes? etc.)

Wishy Washy Washer Woman - From Macaroni Soup by Carol Peterson.

Waaay down in the valley where nobody goes
There's a wishy washy washerwoman washing her clothes
She goes wishy washy up, she goes wishy washy down
She goes wishy washy up, she goes wishy washy down
That's how the wishy washy washerwoman washes her clothes!

drying her clothes, she goes whoo-eee!
folding her clothes, she goes side, side
eating Oreos, she goes dunk, ummm

Scarves

Wiggle it high (wiggle scarf above head)
Wiggle it low (wiggle scarf by knees)

Shake it slow (wiggle scarf slowly)
Put it behind your back

Craft

We have two paper doll die cuts from Ellison that make people and clothing for a firefighter, police officer and paramedic.  I used many colors of paper and let the kids make what or whomever they liked, dressed in any manner they saw fit.  You'll see my example to the right. The kids wanted to know why I had an alligator.

Quick Pic - Teen Ghost Stories Display

Howdy
This is the teen fiction display for ghost stories.  I made silhouettes of a haunted house, a graveyard and a dead tree with a cat sitting in it.  Suspended on clear stretch jewelry cord are some tissue paper ghosts made with the Ellison die cut.

Rhythm Sticks - Windshield Wipers

Howdy
I wanted to incorporate more music to my storytimes beyond singing and dancing. I can't play a musical instrument and I can't read music. I was super grateful to find this article
7 Super Ways to Use Rhythm Sticks in Your Programs on Storytime Stuff.  I don't have rhythm sticks, so we used tongue depressors.  First we practiced simple directions like tapping the sticks, then tapping them over our heads and then tapping them on the floor.  Then we did this awesome Windshield Wiper Rhyme.

It’s a rainy day and down the street we go.

It’s only raining a little bit, so the wipers are going slow.

It’s starting to rain more now, but it’s not a disaster.
We know what we need to do: make the wipers go faster!

Oh no, it’s really pouring now, we hope that it won’t last.
Let’s turn those windshield wipers up, and they’ll go fast fast fast!

The rain is slacking off again, we’re not sad to see it go.
We’ll turn those windshield wipers down, and they’ll go back to slow.

Oh, look, is that the sun I see? And here comes one last drop.
The rain has stopped now, yessiree, and we turn our wipers OFF!

Egg Shaker Rhyme
Shake Your Shaker (to the tune of London Bridge) from LibraryLand.

Shake your shaker in the air,
Shake it here, shake it there.
Shake your shaker in the air,
Shake your shaker.

Shake it high and shake it low,
Shake it yes, shake it no.
Shake it high and shake it low,
Shake your shaker.

Shake it up and shake it down,
Rub your shaker on the ground.
Shake it up and shake it down,
Shake your shaker.

Shake it near and shake it far,
Drive your shaker like a car.
Shake it near and shake it far,
Shake your shaker.

Shake it fast and shake it slow,
Shake it stop, shake it go.
Shake it fast and shake it slow,
Shake your shaker.

Action Rhyme
I don't know who wrote this song. We don't own it on cd so I can't share a favoite version.  We just sang this over and over as fast as we could.  Check out the JBrary video so you can see the motions and hear the tune.

Hurry, hurry, drive the fire truck
(Hands on steering wheel)
Hurry, hurry, drive the fire truck
Hurry, hurry, drive the fire truck
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!

Hurry, hurry, turn the corner(Lean to the right)
Hurry, hurry, turn the corner(Lean to the left)
Hurry, hurry, turn the corner
(Lean to the right and left)
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!

Hurry, hurry, climb the ladder
Hurry, hurry, climb the ladder
Hurry, hurry, climb the ladder
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!

Hurry, hurry, squirt the water(Pretend to spray hose)
Hurry, hurry, squirt the water
Hurry, hurry, squirt the water
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!

Slowly, slowly, back to the station
(Lean slowly to the left and right)
Slowly, slowly, back to the station
Slowly, slowly, back to the station
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!

Felt Board
Dump Truck rhyme - see the felt board I made for Lego/Construction Storytime.  This rhyme is originally from Construction Time on Sunflower Storytime.  I threw scraps of paper all over the room and had the children bring me the color that matched the truck.  Mostly it was total chaos.

Dump trucks, dump trucks, Cleaning up the town.
Do you see any garbage lying around?
Pick up the trash and match it to a truck,
Soon the whole town will be all cleaned up!

Closing
We Clap Our Hands Like This - tune farmer in the dell
Borrowed from Opening/Closing Songs on Storytime Katie who borrowed it from Rhymes for Toddlers on Sunflower Storytime.

We clap our hands like this
We clap our hands like this
We clap our hands with all of our friends
We clap our hands like this.

We blow a kiss like this
We blow a kiss like this
We blow a kiss with all of our friends
We blow a kiss like this.

We wave goodbye like this.
We wave goodbye like this.
We wave goodbye with all our friends.
We wave goodbye like this.

Craft
For our craft I used the large Ellison to punch out locomotives.  I cut two sizes of black paper circles and we attached the wheels with brads. Some parents seemed confused that I didn't prepunch the holes but I really wanted to encourage the children to choose where the wheels went. Everyone seemed really amused by making the wheels spin.
